Melissa was admitted to the Bar in May 2004 and holds an LL.B degree from the University of Nairobi, and an LL.M in Corporate and Securities Law from the University of London.  She is presently studying for her MBA at Conley University.   She has received other certifications including a Women in Aviation Leadership Diploma from IATA, 2019, a Certificate in Pensions Law & Regulations from the Institute of Pensions Management, and a Certificate in the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme.

Melissa’s 17+ years career as a corporate and commercial lawyer includes 8+ years as in-house counsel of Kenya Airways, 3 years in Wananchi Group, an East African telco, and 7 years as outside counsel to corporates in the banking, private equity, aviation, research, ICT and manufacturing industries with the firms of Raffman, Dhanji Elms & Virdee and Muthaura, Mugambi, Ayugi & Njonjo (MMAN).

She has handled several transactions with capital commitments in excess of US$500 million collectively, involving key development finance institutions and emerging market private equity funds, both as in-house and external counsel.
