Gellerupparkens Retshjælp

Gellerupparkens Retshjælp is an independent legal aid institution based in Brabrand, Denmark, providing free legal advice to all members of the public regardless of residence or income. The office traces its origins to January 1975 and became an independent entity after separating from Aarhus Retshjælp in the late 1970s.

The practice concentrates on everyday legal matters including immigration, family, social and tenancy issues as well as employment, consumer, insurance and debt matters; advice is provided orally and the office also undertakes substantive case handling such as correspondence with opposing parties or public authorities and submission of complaints and appeals to relevant national boards and agencies.

The institution operates autonomously and is financed through appropriations under the Danish Finance Act, with a focus on accessibility through phone appointments and advice in Danish and English; it does not conduct court proceedings or prepare documents for purchase or sale of real estate, and it assists clients by preparing and filing complaints and appeals to specialized national bodies when appropriate.
