Changing my temporary residency card in Portugal to permanent!

En United States
Última Actualización: Nov 21, 2025
Good day!
I have been living in Portugal for 4 years and next year I need to change my temporary residency to permanent one. My questions:
What documents do I need?
How long does it take!
When is the starting of 5 years?
How much does it cost?
I am single, no kids, moved from US, no complications!
Thank you!
Got referred to you by a gentleman from Texas!

Hello and greetings!
Thank you for reaching out. Regarding your permanent residency application in Portugal, here are some important points:

You will generally need your valid passport, proof of address in Portugal, your current residency permit, a clean criminal record (from both the US and Portugal), proof of sufficient financial means, and health insurance or proof of access to the Portuguese healthcare system.

The process usually takes between 3 to 6 months, but can sometimes take longer depending on the workload at SEF (Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras).

The 5-year clock for permanent residency starts from your first temporary residency permit, counting all consecutive years of legal stay.

The official fee for the application is around €85, but additional costs may apply for documents and translations.

If you’d like, feel free to message me on WhatsApp and I can guide you through each step at a very reasonable cost, making sure everything goes smoothly. Looking forward to assisting you!

Best regards,
