On the 2nd of January 2012, Earle & Wilson opened its doors for business with two partners and three supporting staff - namely Mr. André Earle (Managing Partner), Ms. Karen Wilson (Partner), Ms. Phyllis Middleton (Accountant), Ms. Sheila McDowell (Administrative Executive) and Ms. Renni Kettle (Client Services Representative).
On a gloomy Saturday evening of April 28, 2012, however, Mr. André Earle and Ms. Karen Wilson welcomed specially invited guests and persons of the media to the launch and official opening of their new law firm Earle & Wilson, Attorneys-at-Law, Notaries Public, Mediators on Ardenne Road, Kingston 10 in St. Andrew - with the evening's proceedings being blessed by the Reverend Dr. Burchell Taylor.
Among the legal luminaries present were Jamaica's first female Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms. Paula Llewellyn, and President of the Jamaica Bar Association, Mr. Ian Wilkinson, QC. Not short of legal lingo, master of ceremony for the evening's proceedings, Mr. Rupert Gallimore, kept the air light and jovial as he poked fun at the noble profession of which he is a member.
Mrs. Yanique Leiba-Ebanks started off with a beautiful solo of To God be the Glory, after which the guests were all invited inside for the official cutting of the ribbon by André and Karen and the tour of the new offices. As the guests were treated to cocktails by the Bars to Go Team, Ambassador Carlton Masters (one of our first clients) and Mr. Francois St. Juste brought greetings to both partners, noting that André has 23 years in the legal profession and Karen has 17 years, making them as he calls it, "a beautiful fit".
Wilkinson also spoke of the selflessness of the partners and the possibilities that a new firm of this nature can bring to Jamaica's justice system. He punctuated his talk with fond memories of his beloved Kingston College days versus André's Calabar days and the rivalry and the competitive spirit that they shared.
Ms. Llewelyn brought a light hearted message on behalf of the public bar. She embraced the law firm as well as André's and Karen's contribution to the judicial system. This was followed by the ceremonial cutting of the blue and gold double-tiered cake by the partners.
Drawing closer the conclusion of the evening's proceedings guests were treated to a musical duo by Mrs. Yanique Leiba-Ebanks and Mr. DiMario McDowell as well as a superb piano ensemble by Mr. Dennis Rushton. It was now time for the guests to 'mix and mingle' while being fed by ace caterer Ms. Lorraine Fung
