The Jamaican Bar Association (JAMBAR) is a voluntary organisation for attorneys-at-law in Jamaica. It was incorporated on January 16, 1973, and operates to promote integrity, protect the independence of judges and attorneys, and work toward law reform and improved access to the justice system. The association also offers aid and protections to those in need and ensures ongoing professional development for its members through mandatory continuing legal professional development and education.
JAMBAR is regarded for its leadership in defending the rule of law and human rights, and for acting as a watchdog to strengthen the legal profession. It fosters professional exchange, maintains regional bar associations, and provides member resources and education that contribute to high standards of advocacy and service to clients and the justice system.
In its client service approach, JAMBAR emphasizes service to the system of justice and to those in need by delivering programs and resources that enhance attorney capability and ethical advocacy. Members have access to discounted continuing legal education seminars, a mini library at the Bar's office, health coverage benefits, and other services that support lawyers who represent clients across Jamaica.
