Do i have to pay tax for 2025 and need a tin number here in Thailand ?
I stayed in 2025 the first full year in Thailand
I sent some money from abroad to my bank account here for my life.
This money is from my pension fund. The full pension fund is at my swiss bank account since october 2024 and the tax is paid in switzerland already.
End of 2023 i had already the biggest money from my pension fund at the pension fund account but not on my bank account.
But i don't have any income since then. Only a very small interest from my Bank account here.
Thank you

Thank you for your message. Based on what you described, if you stayed in Thailand for more than 180 days during 2025, you would generally be considered a Thai tax resident for that year. Thai tax residents are required to file a personal income tax return if they have assessable income. A Thai Tax Identification Number (TIN) is only required if you are required to file a tax return; it is not automatically required simply because you live in Thailand. Interest earned from a Thai bank account is usually subject to withholding tax at source and, in many cases, does not require further reporting unless you choose to include it in your annual return.

Regarding your pension, Thailand’s tax treatment depends on when the income was earned, when it was remitted to Thailand, and the applicable Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) between Thailand and Switzerland. Generally, pension income that has already been taxed in Switzerland may be exempt or creditable in Thailand under the DTA, and funds earned in prior years may not be taxable when remitted, depending on timing and classification. As the rules in this area have changed recently and the details matter, we recommend a brief review of your residency status, remittance dates, and pension structure to confirm whether a tax filing or TIN is required for 2025.

As others have mentioned, please confirm you are staying in Thailand 180 days or more.
