Councils Withdraw from Solar Farm Legal Action

A legal challenge against the 2,500-acre Sunnica Energy Farm, a massive solar farm project on the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border, has been dropped after two of the four councils involved in the challenge withdrew. The councils, West Suffolk and Cambridgeshire County decided to pull out due to concerns over the financial viability and potential success of the legal action, deeming it not a justifiable use of public funds.

This decision has left local leaders and residents disappointed, as they believe the project could have adverse effects on local communities and food production fields. The solar farm, approved despite the Planning Inspectorate's recommendation against it, is intended to power 172,000 homes and contribute to the UK's net-zero goals.
