Liskow & Lewis was founded in 1935 and includes nearly 140 lawyers in four offices, strategically located in New Orleans, Lafayette and Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Houston, Texas. Since its inception, the firm’s practice has focused on the energy and oil and gas industry, and has grown to meet the evolving demands of its clients, diversifying into a wide-ranging litigation and transactional practice across the Gulf Coast.

We believe the highest quality representation for clients begins with the highest levels of talent. This is manifest in the fact that over half of our lawyers were selected to Order of the Coif, and over two-thirds were members of the law review at their respective law schools.

Our business lawyers serve clients in the energy and natural resources, environmental, maritime, oil & insurance sectors as well as local and regional corporate enterprise in virtually all industries. Working closely with the firm's litigation team when disputes arise, the Liskow & Lewis business section lawyers provide advice and counsel on a day-to-day basis, and at each critical juncture of a business.
Liskow & Lewis advises secured and unsecured creditors in business reorganizations under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code, and, in certain circumstances we have represented debtors involved in complex reorganizations. Our team has experience in all aspects of bankruptcy litigation. Our bankruptcy lawyers assist in the restructuring of debt and liquidation of businesses, including business actions taken in the wake of natural disasters, such as Hurricanes Katrina or Rita. Such matters include the numerous types of commercial disputes that arise in a bankruptcy case, including leases, employment contracts and enforcement of security interests. Our lawyers’ experience includes corporate reorganizations from both the debtor and creditor perspective and the representation of individual debtors with complex issues.
Liskow & Lewis advises clients in the complex and evolving world of labor and employment law. Our lawyers act as an extension of our clients’ management and human resources teams, providing advice and training, and helping them avoid liabilities that can result from well-intentioned business decisions.
Our diverse group of clients includes businesses of all sizes, both locally and nationally. They operate across a range of industries, such as energy, chemical, maritime, technology, hospitality, manufacturing and health care.
Our substantial real estate practice offers advice and solutions to lenders, developers, and commercial landlords and tenants. We counsel developers and lenders in the acquisition, leasing and financing of real estate and in the construction of industrial plants, residential developments, major office buildings, hotels, and hospitals throughout Louisiana and the South. We also handle closings and issue title insurance through our affiliated title company Lewis Title Co., Inc.
Our attorneys have drafted and negotiated leases for both landlords and tenants of office buildings, telecommunications facilities, industrial park complexes, as well as right-of-way agreements for public and private purposes. We also have represented numerous property owners before the Louisiana Tax Commission and local municipalities in matters relating to property tax assessments, as well as before local planning and zoning boards in connection with zoning matters.
