We are dealing with various types of criminal matters including Royal Malaysian Customs and other regulatory offences.
Apart from that, we are dealing with civil litigation matters as well, comprising of divorce and matrimonial disputes, probate and letters of administration, defamations, contractual claims, employment law and arbitration matters.
Messrs M. Thanakumaran & Shan was initially established in the year 2009 by M. Thanakumaran dealing with conveyancing matters such as drafting sub-sale and purchase agreements, tenancy/lease agreements, wills, and trusts.
In the initial stage, the firm also handled civil litigations matters comprising of divorce and matrimonial disputes, probate and letters of administration.
The firm started to grow from strength to strength and in the year 2018, Mr Shanmugam Ganesan joined as a Partner and the firm's scope of work widen to criminal litigation and other regulatory offences.
The Firm also specializes in commercial crimes including money laundering offences.
The Firm is constantly evolving and on the lookout to expand.

Mr Shanmugam Ganesan obtained his Bachelor of Laws with honours from the University of Malaya in 2007. He was called to the Malaysian Bar on 9th of May 2008 and was in practice from June 2008 till June 2012.
He started off as a Legal Assistant in Messrs Muhendaran Sri where he handled the portfolio of Employment & Industrial Relations extensively. He has handled numerous litigation matters in the Industrial Court and also acted in advisory work for organizations and individuals.
Thereafter he ceased practice for a short period in 2011 to join the private sector. He took the challenge as a Legal Manager in a reputable security firm where he dealt with full spectrum of legal matters in the Company. As a Legal Manager, he has dealt with various Malaysian authorities and foreign embassies with regard to employment matters.
He resumed his legal practice in Messrs Mureli Navaratnam in early 2014 and dealing with civil matters such as defamation, contractual claims, employment law and arbitration matters. He then joined Messrs Yoges & Co and dealt with various types of criminal matters including Royal Malaysian Customs and other regulatory offences.
He joined Messrs M. Thanakumaran & Co as a Partner with effect from 19/1/2018 through the conduct Messrs M.Thanakumaran & Shan comes into being. Mr. Shanmugam was also the Assistant Conducting Officer for the Penang State Commission of Inquiry in the year 2014. Mr Shanmugam also actively handles legal aid cases concerning industrial relations matters and employment issues.

Mr. Thanakumaran commenced his legal practice in the year 2008 in Messrs Ravi Shangar & Associates to set up Messrs M. Thanakumaran & Co in May 2009. From a very humble begining, he managed to establish the firm as one of the reputable firm in Klang, Selangor.
Mr. Thanakumaran have gained vast experience in the area of conveyancing matters such as drafting sub-sale and purchase agreements, tenancy / lease agreements, wills, and trusts. He well versed with the loan documentation and conditions required for drawdown for most commercial banks and building societies in Malaysia, both conventional and Islamic financing documentations. He also handles civil litigations matters comprising of divorce and matrimonial disputes, probate and letters of administration.
Mr. Thanakumaran is also currently doing advisory work for few temples in Klang, He also handles general civil litigation such as divorce and matrimonial disputes and criminal litigation.

Mrs. Sobini Kobu graduated with LL.B (Hons) from the Northern University of Malaysia (UUM) in November, 2016. She completed her pupillage in Messrs T.Jayaraj and Co. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 18th June 2017. She started off as a Legal Assistant for nearly one year in Messrs T.Jayaraj and Co.
She has spread her wings on criminal and civil litigation matters comprising of divorce and matrimonial disputes. She has been giving advice to clients on defending lawsuits and other legal information. She has joined M.Thanakumaran & Shan as a Legal Associate effective from 1st July 2018.
