The firm advises large and small businesses on matters of business form and structure, corporate governance, purchases and sales of businesses, employment law, professional and products liability, real estate transactions, outside contracting, insurance, and a variety of other legal matters that arise in the business and commercial context.
In litigation, the firm represents business and commercial clients in cases ranging from liability defense and contract claims to government regulation. The firm also collaborates regularly with firms from other states to represent clients involved in litigation in federal or state courts here in Maine.
The firm concentrates its efforts on matching its legal strategies to the business strategies of its clients and maintaining each client’s business interests as the central focus of its efforts on the client’s behalf.
In addition to our insurance defense practice, the firm provides both advice and representation to insurers and insureds on matters of coverage.
We regularly address issues of the duties to defend and indemnify under standard automobile, homeowners’, commercial general liability, professional liability, and directors’ and officers’ policies.
Lawyers from the firm have participated on several occasions in preparing written materials or serving on the faculty for continuing legal education programs on the subject of insurance coverage under Maine law.
The firm has represented business and individual clients in litigation in federal and state courts arising from patent and copyright claims, claims of trade and service mark infringement, and disputes about intellectual property (including computer software) licensing agreements.
While we are not patent lawyers, we have the mastery of state and federal intellectual property law necessary to conduct complex intellectual property litigation successfully for either plaintiffs or defendants.
