Marriage issues in the Philippines

Última Atualização: Nov 20, 2025
My husband and I are civilly wedded and we have not separated until now. My husband adopted a child with his mistress (Muslim), now his second wife, after his conversion to Muslim (without my consent). His conversion to Muslim was consented to by me because he was working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia at that time, and he said he needed to be converted to make his life easier in the said country. I am not aware that the main reason was to marry his Muslim mistress, who is also working in Saudi Arabia. Will this adopted child have the right to inherit what we own? Is he allowed to marry as a Muslim without my consent? Are all their actions (husband and second wife) legal? What should I do as the legal wife? Thank you.

Hello, Based on your situation, the legal rights regarding inheritance, remarriage, and adoption in Saudi Arabia or Iran depend on the specific laws and religious rulings in those countries. Since these matters are complicated and sensitive, it is highly recommended to consult a qualified lawyer who specializes in family law in your country. If you are interested, I can offer low-cost text-based consultation via WhatsApp to help you understand the basic legal concepts and possible next steps. Please let me know if you would like to proceed.

Under Philippine law, a person can only take another wife if his 1st marriage was solemnized under Muslim law. Since your husband's marriage with you was not under Muslim law, his act of converting to Islam just to take another wife is illegal and bigamous.

His adopted child cannot inherit from your conjugal properties since he is not a legitimite child, either of you or your husband.
