UK Announces Sweeping Changes to Immigration Rules

The UK government announced a significant overhaul of its immigration system, with a series of new rules designed to reduce net migration and prioritize higher-skilled workers. The changes, which begin to take effect in July, include raising the skills threshold for the Skilled Worker visa and removing over 100 occupations from the eligibility list. In a major shift, the government is also ending the route for overseas social care workers, citing widespread exploitation.

In a separate update, rules for the EU Settlement Scheme were relaxed, making it easier for those with Pre-Settled Status to qualify for permanent settlement by allowing them to demonstrate 30 months of residence over a 60-month period, rather than proving continuous residence without long absences.
