Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property

Our primary goal is to manage and alleviate risk and maximise the return from intellectual property (IP) assets for the benefit of our clients. We advise on all aspects of the creation, exploitation, and enforcement of IP rights.
We deal with matters relating to disputes covering the full spectrum of intellectual property rights, these range from patent actions to all forms of dispute relating to trademarks, passing off, copyright, database rights, design rights and breach of confidence claims.

Our legal advisors also assist with IP related agreements, which include trademark licensing, distribution agreements, sponsorship agreements and franchising deals. We also provide strategic advice in managing and commercialising patent and trademark portfolios.
With the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the largest global free trade area by countries participating, the role of IP had never been this critical for trade in Africa, especially, as member states may seek to pool together and optimise limited capacity and resources and avoid duplication. If AfCFTA is to transform the continent’s economic prospects, then the ‘new generation’ issue of IP in cross-border trade requires the expertise of firms like ALA to guide their clients and their products through this new and exciting market of great opportunities.
