With a career spanning almost four decades, Asoka Weerasooriya was admitted to the Bar in 1987 as an Attorney-at-Law and subsequently joined the Attorney General’s Department in 1988 as a State Counsel.
In 1993, he transitioned to the Private Bar, where he has established a distinguished legal practice over 38 years.
He has built a multi-disciplinary practice, specializing in criminal law, industrial and labour disputes, customs and tax disputes, bribery and corruption cases, civil and commercial litigation, and arbitration.
Over the course of his career, he has appeared in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Civil High Courts, Criminal High Courts, Commercial High Courts, District Courts, Magistrates’ Courts, and Labour Tribunals, handling a wide range of complex legal matters.
He has trained over 100 junior lawyers, many of whom have gone on to serve as Magistrates, District Judges, High Court Judges, and Justices of the Court of Appeal.
He has represented and continues to represent leading Sri Lankan companies and international clients in both criminal and civil disputes. His legal work also extends to human rights, religious liberty, and other rights-based cases for local and international organizations.
