What is Elder Law?
Elder law is a specialized area of law defined more by the client being served than by a particular issue. The client is generally a senior or the senior’s family. Elder law combines aspects of long term care planning, Medicaid planning, preparation of wills and trusts, advance health care directives, and powers of attorney.
Estate Planning
Estate planning is planning which permits an individual to retain control over their assets during their lifetime, plan for their own incapacity, and plan for their loved ones. Proper planning with an experienced attorney assures that the right tools are used to keep you in control of you assets for as long as possible.
Long-Term Care/Medicaid Planning
Long term care planning explores the options available to clients to meet their long term care needs. For some clients the planning focuses on Medicaid, a state-federal program available to pay for nursing home and assisted living care costs. For other clients, the planning may focus on aging in place, a concept that permits seniors to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. Under either set of options, long term care planning with an attorney experienced in this area gives a client the peace of mind that their needs will be met, financially, emotionally and physically as they age.
