de Livera Associates

HISTORY & LEGAL INSPIRATION

The Firm of De Livera Associates was founded, by Solomon Christoffel Obeyesekere De Livera, popularly known as Christo De Livera, on his retirement from the Attorney General’s Department of Sri Lanka, having served for a period of about three decades and who on his retirement was the second most senior officer in the Attorney General’s Department.

Christo De Livera was inspired by a long lineage of distinguished legal luminaries such as James D’Alwis, his Great-Great Grandfather, who was an Advocate, Judge and later a member of the Legislative Council (1864 to 1875). The Son-in-Law of the said James D’ Alwis, Sir Christoffel Obeyesekere, who was the founder’s Great Grandfather

was also a lawyer (1872), was twice nominated as a member to the Legislative Council (1900 & 1916). Christo De Livera’s Great-Great Granduncle, Sir Henry (Harry) Dias Bandaranaike (1822 to 1901), was the first Sri Lankan Judge of the Supreme Court and the first Ceylonese to act as Chief Justice for Chief Justice Morgan (1879).

Upon the passing of the said Solomon Christoffel Obeyesekere De Livera his son, Priyan Romesh de Livera and his daughter-in-law, Samanda Shobani de Livera continued the practice as a partnership. They were inspired by the said legal luminaries spanning five generations and over 150 years, who have left a strong foot print for the generations that follow to tread, inscribing their milestones in the legal history of Sri Lanka.

The Firm is presently headed by Samanda de Livera who has over 30 years of experience in the legal field and is supported by a team of qualified, experienced and highly motivated Attorneys-at-Law and staff who are committed to fair and ethical operations that respect the interest of the clients.
