Employment & Labor
In 2013 the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) awarded damages in Abimbola Patricia Yakubu V Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria& Anor (Suit No NICN/LA/673/2013; judgement delivered on the 24th November, 2016.) The claimant was at various times subjected to sexual and seductive gestures, promiscuous and obscene talk, demand for sexual favours and indecent marriage proposal from the 2nd defendant while she was in the employment of the 1st defendant. The NICN held that the claimant’s right to human dignity and self-worth was violated and awarded the sum of NGN5Million as damages in her favour.
In 2017 the NICN amended its civil procedure rules to include provisions on workplace sexual harassment. Order 14(1) of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria Civil Procedure Rules 2017 provides for a claim that alleges sexual harassment in the workplace making it easier than ever to get justice if you have experienced sexual harassment on the job or lost your job as a result.
Lawsuits & Disputes
ADR is an essential tool for conflict resolution. We encourage our clients to exhaust meditation or arbitration before coming before the courts. ADR saves money, time, and stress for our clients. ADR is increasingly popular in family law, maritime law, and the oil and gas sector.
Mediation is a way of resolving disputes between people in conflict, usually facilitated by a neutral person. We encourage families to use family mediation to help resolve their disputes about children, instead of using the family law courts whenever feasible.
Where ADR fails we are thorough in preparing for litigation. We also litigate Class action suits against private sector companies and corporations. We are currently preparing for 2 separate class actions in the telecomm and energy sector. Our prior cases include class action against a airline and a state government in Nigeria.
Our Partners and Associates

Lesley brings over 30 years of continuous experience in matrimonial causes, women’s rights and alternate dispute resolution in Nigeria. Over the years she has provided thousands of women (and men) legal information through her blog, seminars and one on one consultations. She has also represented hundreds of clients in court. She has exclusively practiced family law for over 20 years.
Agams was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 and has been helping women mediate, litigate and settle matrimonial disputes ever since. In 2000 she opened the first women’s shelter in Imo State. At the shelter she started to exclusively provide mostly pro bono services for matrimonial causes, and developed her specialization. Her work at the shelter showed her how uninformed women were about marriage, divorce and custody. In 2011 she started her blog and a series of seminars to reach more women across Nigeria. She found men equally uninformed and searching for information.
Her mission is to ensure couples have the information, resources and support they need for successful marriage, divorce and custody.
