Faculty of Law, VU
Vilnius University Faculty of Law is the law faculty of Vilnius University, established by royal privilege on October 11, 1641. The faculty combines a long legal tradition with contemporary academic structures, hosting degree programmes, doctoral studies, international summer schools and specialised centres of foreign law. It publishes peer-reviewed legal scholarship and maintains partnerships that support comparative and transnational legal research.
The faculty concentrates research and teaching capacity in areas such as private law, criminal justice, public and international law, human rights, and the legal implications of technological change and sustainability. Academic staff engage in interdisciplinary projects that examine artificial intelligence, environmental governance, labour relations and procedural reform, producing policy-relevant analysis and expert commentary for national and international stakeholders.
As an academic institution the faculty serves students, the legal profession and public institutions by combining rigorous legal education with practical training and expert services. Practical engagement includes a legal clinic for applied student training, continuing education offerings for practitioners and collaborative research that informs legislative and regulatory development. The faculty emphasises evidence-based solutions, hands-on legal practice experiences and international cooperation to support the rule of law and legal capacity building.
