Immigration
The MRVP Regulations enable applicants and their dependents to obtain a certificate which allows them to reside, settle and stay indefinitely in Malta and to travel freely within the Schengen area without the need to obtain a visa. Both applicants, as well as their dependents, may benefit from the MRVP subject to a number of conditions. Once issued, a certificate is equivalent to a residence permit and subject to annual monitoring for the first five years and every five years thereafter.

IURIS has been engaged in a number of consumer law related issues, both from its corporate clients as well as by consumers themselves. We are a Gozo and Malta consumer protection law firm that has assisted clients both before the Consumer Claims Tribunal in matters falling within its competence, as well as before the Courts in actions for the rescission of a sale of defective products.

For employers, we aim to secure the protection of their primary concerns and thus emphasise the importance of water-tight confidentiality clauses, data protection, the safeguarding of trade secrets/know-how and the regulation of conflicting employment both during and after termination.
Family
Personal separations
IURIS regularly assists numerous clients in separations before the courts. We believe that in this area, as in others, our clients’ best interests lie in a speedy and beneficial solution, which is why we aim for consensual separation. Because this is not always possible, we offer the full service, from the initial meditation procedure through to the litigation process until final judgment, providing comprehensive assistance throughout in all areas from care and custody of minor children, to maintenance, division of assets and the matrimonial home. We have also assisted in domestic violence cases and have acted as legal advisors to the main domestic violence agency in Malta.
The firm may also assist clients with enforcing judgments obtained before a foreign court or tribunal in Malta.
Civil & Human Rights
Human rights are inherent to all persons, whatever their nationality, residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language or any other status. Every person in Malta is entitled to the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual in accordance with the Constitution of Malta, the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the EU Charter of Human Rights.
Insurance
Malta’s innovative legislative and regulatory framework for the insurance industry has led to an encouraging growth of insurance and re-insurance business domestically as well as a thriving international captive insurance sector. The local regulator and the financial services sector in Malta are geared towards providing a pro-business and efficient response to the various types of insurance structures available locally, namely:
Key Features of Malta’s Tax System:
- Insurance and reinsurance companies
- Affiliated insurance companies (captive insurance companies)
- Protected cell companies
- Incorporated cell companies
- Insurance intermediaries
Intellectual Property
IURIS offers a wide range of services to help protect our clients’ most valuable assets. Our team has vast experience in all areas of intellectual property law ranging from registration, exploitation and enforcement of intellectual property rights. The firm forms part of a close network of European and international intellectual property practitioners which can be utilised to help our clients in all foreign aspects of intellectual property.
The firm is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and since 2004, has been the local partner of REACT, a not-for-profit organisation fighting counterfeit trade.
Lawsuits & Disputes
Our team of lawyers provides representation before the superior and inferior courts of Malta and Gozo, as well as before other boards and tribunals such as the Rent Regulation Board, the Rural Leases Control Board, the Industrial Tribunal and the Administrative Review Tribunal, to mention but a few.
Accidents & Injuries
Damages for which compensation is sought include costs sustained and loss of earnings. Save for some minor exceptions, Maltese law as yet does not entertain moral damages (pain and suffering). IURIS has assisted several clients in their claims for personal injuries or for damages following the accidental death of a next of kin, be it work-related or otherwise. We have also defended employers and others faced with such claims. IURIS has also provided expert reports and opinions in personal injury claims pending before foreign courts concerning accidents which occurred in Malta.
Real Estate
Real estate in Malta is traditionally one of the building blocks of the Maltese economy and still continues to contribute heavily to Malta’s growth, thanks to amongst others things, the Individual Investor Programme, and to the gaming industry.
Elder Law
Over the years, the Maltese Civil Code provisions have evolved hand in hand with social changes and today adequately cater for all aspects of inheritance in Malta. The Civil Code provides for testate succession (where the deceased left a will), intestate succession (where no will was left), the reserved portion (previously known as the ‘legitim’) in favour of children and the surviving spouse, for legacies and various other articles regulating the manner in which one’s estate is to devolve.
