OUR HISTORY
Providing realistic, practical and professional legal support to the people of North West Tasmania since the late 1800’s.
McGrath & Co Lawyers as we know it today traces its history back to two separate chains of law firms dating to the late 1800’s. The name McGrath commenced practice in law in Burnie with James Francis McGrath in 1944 in the firm Hudson, Waterworth and McGrath.
In 1952 James went into partnership with his brother Francis Charles McGrath and opened the firm of McGrath and McGrath at our current address of 5 Cattley Street Burnie. John Hudson joined with Messer’s Crisp and Mann who formed the firm Crisp Hudson & Mann which traces its line back to 1883.
McGrath & Co as we are known today commenced in the early 1990’s with the partnership of Francis Charles McGrath and his son Paul Joseph McGrath. The two firms joining together when Paul Joseph McGrath purchased Crisp Hudson & Mann in 2013.
We are proud of our Burnie heritage and are committed to our clients, far and wide, and the people and families of the North West Coast of Tasmania.
