Stellenbosch University Law Clinic

Stellenbosch University Law Clinic is a teaching law clinic within the Faculty of Law at Stellenbosch University, delivering practical legal training while providing high quality legal services to the community. The clinic traces its origins to 1975, when a free legal aid scheme was established to assist local residents, and it evolved into the Legal Aid Clinic before being renamed the Stellenbosch University Law Clinic in 2018 to reflect its broader mission of clinical legal education and service delivery.

With a dedicated team of experienced attorneys, senior practitioners and candidate legal professionals, the clinic combines hands-on advocacy with student training. It has been involved in high impact civil rights work and constitutional matters, including tenure security and eviction issues affecting farm dwellers in the Western Cape, demonstrating a strong reputation for impact litigation and community service.

Stellenbosch University Law Clinic emphasises accessible client service, providing outreach and support through its Crozier Street offices and satellite locations, with a coordinated staff including administrative managers, training coordinators and student practitioners to ensure timely, respectful and thorough representation.
