Bankruptcy & Debt
Debt Recovery is the most specialised sub-practice area in our firm. We have proven track records on our successful representation and collection of debt for and on behalf of our clients.
Some notable transactions handled by us in 2021 include:-
- Successfully represented a creditor in a debt recovery for RM18 million in respect of tender of projects relating to a mixed development of residents and commercial projects
- Successfully represented multiple creditors in debt recovery for over RM30 million (in 1 year) in respect of services provided and works rendered to an oil and gas company
- Advising on matters connected with financial fraud and forgery to recover approximately RM6 million
- Successfully represented multiple Small and Medium Enterprises, recovered and realised commercial debt for over RM4.8 million (in 1 year)

Tay is the Founder and Managing Partner of Tay Chambers, established in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Since the firm’s inception, he has led its growth and direction, combining legal expertise with a client-focused approach.
His practice centres on corporate, commercial, and business advisory matters, as well as commercial and banking litigation. Tay regularly advises clients across the Asia-Pacific region on a broad spectrum of corporate and commercial issues, including mergers and acquisitions, due diligence exercises, joint ventures, and cross-border transactions.
Over the years, Tay has acted for a distinguished portfolio of clients, including publicly listed companies in Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the People’s Republic of China, along with one of East Asia’s largest banking and financial institutions.
In addition, he has significant experience in contractual and commercial disputes, debt recovery, banking and insolvency matters, and winding-up proceedings. His other areas of practice extend to defamation, land disputes, divorce and family law, as well as wills and probate.
At Tay Chambers, Cassandra’s works focus on Real Estate and Conveyancing practice. She regularly advises and structures commercial transactions, real estate transactions (including application of State Consent and Bumiputera release for land), and financing transactions for both international and local clients, including banking and financial institutions, real estate agents and real estate developers.
Another key focus area of her practice is advising clients including high net worth individuals on matters relating to inheritance, wealth management, drafting of wills & trusts, distribution of estate, and probate & administration matters in the High Court and at the Small Estate Distribution Department.
Apart from being part of the Conveyancing and Estate Law Practice of Tay Chambers, Cassandra also has substantial experience in commercial and civil litigation. Her practical experience consists of handling commercial and contractual disputes, general debt recovery, defamation, bankruptcy, and enforcement and execution proceedings. She has also acted for clients in a broad range of real estate matters, including acting for developers in matters relating to late delivery of vacant possession, and land disputes.
Vivian has extensive experience and has represented clients in a wide range of litigation matters. She conducted trial at courts and submitted hearings at appellate stage at all tiers of the Malaysian court hierarchy.
At Tay Chambers, Vivian specialises her legal practice in corporate and commercial dispute resolution. She regularly handles a wide spectrum of complex litigation matters, including contractual disputes, moneylending, strata management, tortious actions, amongst others, fraud, defamation and negligence. She also assists corporate clients on various legal issues including disputes pertaining to shareholders, employment, joint ventures, and post mergers & acquisitions.
Apart from her core focus in handling contentious matters, Vivian also actively assists clients in drafting of various commercial contracts, giving internal trainings and talks to corporations as well as providing constructive and strategic legal advice as to the implementation and enforcement of current laws and contracts in areas such as employment & industrial relation, property & building development, construction of infrastructure & utilities, plants and related facilities.
Prior to joining Tay Chambers, Glady was an In-House Lawyer at a Global Health Asia-Pacific tertiary hospital (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore), overseeing legal matters across 50 departments including Finance, HR, Procurement and Quality Assurance. During Covid-19, she initiated teleconsultation policies and established dispute resolution procedures, while also conducting training and governance projects on anti-corruption, whistleblowing, data protection, patient safety and employment. She was shortlisted as a Top 5 Finalist for both In-House Lawyer of the Year and Young Lawyer of the Year (In-House) at the ALB Law Awards 2023.
Combining her experience as a Litigation Lawyer, Corporate In-House Counsel and Accredited Mediator (Malaysia International Mediation Centre & ADR Group UK), Glady now leads the Corporate, Commercial & Business Advisory practice at Tay Chambers. She advises local and international clients on M&A, due diligence, cross-border ventures, renewable energy, trusts, franchises and licensing. She also drafts and negotiates shareholders’ agreements, employment policies, construction agreements and trading documents, while guiding clients on corporate restructuring, ESOS, trademarks, crowdfunding and investment schemes.
