In Georgia, can I join a class action over hidden bank fees, or must I start my own claim?

My bank charged a “service fee” for months that was not clearly disclosed when I opened the account. I heard other customers are complaining and may start a group lawsuit. I want to know if joining a class action affects my chance of getting compensation.

Under Georgian law, a bank’s ability to introduce or apply service fees depends primarily on the terms of the banking agreement and the bank’s general conditions that were accepted when the account was opened or subsequently amended in accordance with applicable notice requirements. If a fee was not properly disclosed or was introduced in a way that does not comply with contractual or regulatory requirements, it may be subject to challenge, including claims for reimbursement.

Joining a collective claim does not, in principle, reduce your individual right to compensation, provided your claim is properly documented and within the applicable limitation periods. However, procedural strategy (individual vs. coordinated claim) may affect timing, costs, and how evidence is presented.

To assess the most effective approach in your specific situation, it would be necessary to review the account agreement, fee schedule, and relevant bank communications.
