I signed a 1-year lease and the apartment has repeated water leaks that are damaging my furniture. I notified the landlord in writing several times but no proper repairs were done. Can I terminate the contract early without losing my deposit or facing penalties?

Yes, you can — under the Jordanian Civil Code, your landlord is legally obligated to maintain the property in a habitable condition. Repeated unrepaired water leaks are a material breach of that obligation. What you must do first: Send a formal notarial notice through a Notary Public, giving the landlord a final deadline to fix the issue. Your prior written notices already support your case. If the landlord still doesn't act: File for termination at the Court. Since the breach is the landlord's fault, you face no penalties. Best regards Rawan Noubani Attorney at Law - RN Law Firm
