How can I enforce a breached contract with a supplier in Hong Kong and claim damages?

I signed a supply agreement with a Hong Kong supplier who delivered late and the goods failed quality checks. What are my options to sue for breach of contract, and can I obtain interim relief or an injunction while the case proceeds? Also, what would typical timelines and costs look like in HK courts?

Potential claims include breach of contract and breach of statutory sale‑of‑goods obligations, depending on the terms of your supply agreement and whether statutory implied terms under Hong Kong’s Sale of Goods Ordinance apply.

Yes, You may also seek interim relief (such as an injunction).

For straightforward money claims, a Small Claims Tribunal case can often conclude within a few months, while defended District Court or High Court proceedings commonly take around 1 to 2 years or longer, depending on complexity, interlocutory applications and court timetabling. Legal fees are usually charged on a time‑spent (hourly) basis, and the total amount can vary significantly depending on the nature and complexity of the case and the word required.
