my landlord sent a general test message to all the tenants in the compound about a 100% rent increment on the 3rd of January 2025 but that the payment will commence from 2026 so all the tenants that renewed in 2025 maintained the old rent. my rent expired in November 2025 and i renewed the same old rent which he collected and after that he began to ask of the balanced based on the new increment he made citing that my house rent expires 31st of December 2025 against the 25th of November i said. i showed him my bank payment receipts when i packed in and the date I made my payment because he doesn't issue receipt to tenant and no agreement. after that what i saw next was a 2 months notice to quit while my old rent money i have paid is still with him and has not been refunded to me. please, is this notice proper and what does the law says about it.

The length of notice (to quit) where there is no tenancy agreement is six months. In your case, there is no tenancy agreement so you are entitled to six months' notice. The 2 months' notice already given is of no effect.
