How do I sue a contractor in Panama for unfinished work and extra charges?

I paid a contractor a deposit to renovate my apartment, but they stopped showing up and are now asking for more money. I have messages, invoices, and photos of the unfinished work. What is the process and timeline to file a civil claim and recover my losses?

Sir this to me sounds more like a Criminal Law case (a Scam) along with a Civil Lawsuit. Timeline depends. Criminal Process can take longer, 2 years + but is a good way to put some pressure and also to come into an agreement with the defendant and recover some of the money. Civil Case with our new code can take way less. Drop us a line so we can assist in a better way.

Yes you can sue
Ideally you should have a written contract for repairs above $500 but if you have a paper trail, legal action can be filed pro se at a Peace Judge or with a lawyer at a Municipal or Circuit court
Where is the contractor located? Panama City or a rural area?
