Receiving unsolicited private photos of myself via email – possible extortion / privacy violation

In Philippines
Last Updated: Mar 1, 2026
I am a content creator based in the Philippines and seeking legal guidance regarding a serious privacy violation.

A former intimate partner informed me that he sold my private intimate photos to another person without my consent. These photos were originally shared privately between two consenting adults, but I never gave permission for them to be sold, shared, or distributed.

Recently, I received an anonymous email to my business account containing those same private photos. The sender did not identify themselves and did not explicitly threaten me, but I am concerned about possible distribution or extortion.

As of now, the photos have not been publicly posted to my knowledge. I have preserved screenshots of:
• The email containing the photos
• The sender’s email address
• Previous messages where the former partner admitted selling the photos

I have not responded to the anonymous sender. I have also changed my passwords and enabled two-factor authentication on my accounts.

I would like to understand:
1. What criminal violations may apply under Philippine law (e.g., Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act, Cybercrime Prevention Act)?
2. Can legal action be taken even if the photos have not yet been publicly distributed?
3. What is the proper procedure for filing a complaint with the NBI or PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group?
4. If the photos are posted online, what immediate legal remedies are available to have them removed?
5. What should my next steps be?

My main goal is to protect myself, prevent further distribution, and hold the responsible party accountable.
