Contract Change/Amendment Without Negotiation in Slovakia

In Slovakia
Last Updated: Jan 8, 2025
Hi,
During a recent call, my manager informed me that our contract terms will be changed, specifically the compensation structure shifting from 70/30 to 55/45. I was not informed of any formal negotiation process or given the option to agree. Is it legal in Slovakia for an employer to make such a change to my contract without my consent or negotiation?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

In Slovakia, employers cannot change contract terms, including pay, without your written consent (Labour Code, Section 54).

Key Points:

  1. Changes require mutual agreement—no unilateral decisions allowed.
  2. Exceptions apply only if your contract permits adjustments or for legal reasons, with written notice and at least 1 month’s warning.
  3. You can reject the changes, file a complaint with the Labour Inspectorate, or seek legal advice if forced.
