One year after Colombia passed a landmark law to protect women who search for victims of enforced disappearance, the legislation has still not been implemented, leaving the women vulnerable to violence and threats, Amnesty International reported. The law was intended to provide state protection and recognize the vital work of the "Madres Buscadoras" (Searching Mothers), who often face immense danger while investigating disappearances in conflict zones.

However, Amnesty highlighted that the promise of state protection has not materialized, and the women continue their work without support, facing stigmatization, gender-based violence, and harassment. The report calls on the Colombian government to urgently implement the law and deliver on its commitment to the thousands of women searching for the country's estimated 100,000 to 200,000 disappeared persons.
