Do I need an export licence from the Isle of Man to ship dual-use electronics to the EU?

I run a small Isle of Man business and we’ve been asked to supply components that could be considered dual-use. I’m unsure if export controls apply and what paperwork or screening we must do before shipping. What steps should we take to stay compliant?

Hi. Yes – supplying components that could be classified as “dual‑use” may trigger export‑control obligations even if you are based in the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man follows the United Kingdom’s export‑control regime (the UK Export Control Order 2008) and also implements the EU Dual‑Use Regulation (which still applies to the Isle of Man for goods destined for the EU). To stay compliant you need to (1) determine the correct classification, (2) check the destination and end‑user, (3) obtain any required licences, and (4) keep proper records and perform end‑user screening. If you need help with compliance, etc, just let us know.
