Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee

The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KLBC) serves as the governing body for legal practitioners in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Established on July 1, 1992, under the Legal Profession Act 1976, the KLBC was formed to represent and manage the affairs of advocates and solicitors practicing within the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. Prior to its establishment, these practitioners were part of the Selangor Bar, which was renamed the Selangor and Federal Territory Bar following Kuala Lumpur's designation as a Federal Territory in 1974. The KLBC is composed of a Chairman and ten elected members, with the authority to co-opt two additional members annually. The Chairman also serves as an ex-officio member of the Bar Council, ensuring seamless coordination between the Kuala Lumpur Bar and the national Bar Council. The Committee oversees various sub-committees dedicated to areas such as professional development, legal aid, and court liaison, reflecting its commitment to upholding the highest standards of legal practice and ethics. Dedicated to enhancing the legal profession, the KLBC organizes a range of activities, including continuing legal education programs, seminars, and workshops, to support the ongoing development of its members. It also engages in initiatives aimed at improving the administration of justice and the management of court facilities, as demonstrated by its involvement in customer satisfaction surveys for the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex.
