Hello, good morning
It is possible to check your travel ban status in the UAE, and the process for removing a ban has been streamlined. However, transiting through Dubai with an existing travel ban is not recommended and carries significant risks.
Checking Your Travel Ban Status
You can check your travel ban status in the UAE through several official channels. These include:
Dubai Police: You can visit a Dubai Police station in person or use their website or smart app to check your status online. You will likely need your Emirates ID or passport details.
Estafser e-service: This service allows you to check for any claims filed against you in the public prosecution. You will need your Unified Identification Number (UID) for this service.
Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP): You can use the ICP's smart services to inquire about your status.
Removing a Travel Ban
Recent changes in UAE law have automated the process of lifting travel bans. Once the legal case or issue that led to the ban is resolved, the ban is now automatically lifted. This eliminates the need for submitting a separate request to have the ban removed
If you were deported, the ban is considered more serious and may be for a lifetime, though it could be for 1-2 years for minor offenses. To lift a deportation ban, you may need to submit a formal petition to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) or the ICP. This may require legal assistance.
Transiting Through Dubai with a Travel Ban
Transiting through a UAE airport, like Dubai International Airport, while having an active travel ban is highly risky and not advisable. Even if you do not intend to pass through immigration, airlines and UAE authorities review passenger lists. Potential consequences of transiting with a ban include:
Being denied boarding by the airline at your point of origin.
Detention upon arrival in the UAE.
Immediate deportation.
The type of ban you have can impact the level of risk. An entry or deportation ban is a formal restriction preventing you from entering the UAE for any reason, including transit. A travel ban is a legal restriction that prohibits you from exiting, entering, or re-entering the UAE, often related to ongoing legal cases.
