I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re facing. Here are a few steps you might consider to pursue joint custody without the need for immediate funds for a lawyer: Legal Aid Services: Look for organizations that provide free legal services to those who cannot afford a lawyer. In Nigeria, you can contact the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria or other non-profit organizations that offer legal support. Pro Bono Services: Some lawyers offer pro bono (free) services for cases like yours. You might want to reach out to local law firms or bar associations in Portharcourt and Imo state to inquire about pro bono assistance. Family Court: You can file a petition for joint custody directly at the Family Court. While having a lawyer is beneficial, you can represent yourself. The court staff can provide guidance on the procedures and paperwork. Support Groups: Join support groups for parents facing similar issues. They can offer advice, share experiences, and provide emotional support. Social Services: Reach out to social services in your area. They might be able to intervene or provide support in facilitating communication and visits with your children. Remember to document all your attempts to contact and visit your children, as this will be useful in court. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best in resolving this matter.
