Dr. Gökhan Cindemir

After completing high school in Turkey, he participated in the AFS intercultural exchange program and completed part of his secondary education in Brussels, the capital of the European Union. This formative international experience shaped his early interest in European Union law and broadened his academic and professional outlook.
Upon returning to Turkey, he obtained his law degree from Marmara University Faculty of Law. During his studies, he represented Marmara University in the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
Following his admission to the Istanbul Bar Association, he joined Cindemir Law Office, founded by his partner and brother, Hakan Cindemir. Although formally established during the Republican era, the firm reflects a longstanding family legal tradition dating back to 1892. This heritage was initiated by Hafız Hüseyin Hüsnü Efendi, a respected figure in the Ottoman judiciary who served as a judge in various provinces and later as governor (mutasarrıf) of Debre-i Bala (present-day North Macedonia and Albania). Over generations, this tradition has evolved into a practice encompassing both domestic and international legal matters.
Dr. Gökhan Cindemir holds an LL.M. in European and Comparative Law from Ghent University (Belgium), where his master’s thesis examined the Freedom of Establishment under the Ankara Agreement. He completed his military service as a Lieutenant in the Legal Affairs Department of the Central Command Headquarters in Ankara.
He has been awarded a PhD in European Union and International Trade Law from Istanbul Ticaret University. His doctoral dissertation focused on the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), examining the classification of crypto-assets, regulatory compliance obligations, and supervisory frameworks within EU financial law.
His areas of expertise include International Private Law, European Union Law, Crypto-Asset Regulation, Personal Injury and Tort Law, Family Law, Criminal Law, Business Law, Real Estate Law, and Foreigners’ Law.
He is fluent in English and has working proficiency in Dutch and French, with intermediate knowledge of Russian.
