In principle, every employee is entitled to a job reference. It fulfills an important role in the further professional path, giving potential future employers a better insight into the skills of the applicants and significantly influencing their choice.
Complicated formulations of job references often cause confusion and uncertainty among employees. This is due to the coded reference language usually used for references. Due to the consistently positive manner of expression, even poor performance is rated favorably (e.g. "He/She always tried hard" = grade 5).
Do you have trouble interpreting your job reference? Are you unsure whether you should enclose the job reference with your next application?
