Fahad Arteh

Fahad Arteh is a distinguished lawyer, legal consultant, and governance specialist with more than 17 years of professional experience advising governments, parliaments, international organizations, and corporate clients across the Somali Peninsula. Widely regarded as one of the region’s top legal experts, he has built a reputation for legal excellence, political acumen, and unwavering commitment to advancing justice and governance in Somalia and beyond.

Fahad comes from one of the most Somali influential political and business families. He is the grandson of Omer Arteh, a towering statesman in Somali politics; the son of Mohamed Omer Arteh, who carried forward the family’s legacy of leadership and public service; and the great-grandson of Jirde Hussein, once regarded as the wealthiest man in Somalia, whose entrepreneurial success shaped Somali commerce. 

Professionally, Fahad has combined legal practice with policy expertise, founding and leading a law firm that provides trusted legal services to both domestic and international clients. He has advised multinational corporations, NGOs, and financial institutions, gaining recognition as a trusted counsel for international corporations operating in Somalia and Somaliland. 

Beyond his practice, Fahad has made substantial contributions to Somalia’s legal and constitutional development and Somaliland's legal frameworks. He has served as a senior legal advisor to the Independent Constitutional Review and Implementation Commission (ICRIC), where he provided legal analysis, drafting support, and constitutional expertise. His role in shaping draft constitutional amendments underscores his central contribution to Somalia’s ongoing state-building project. He has also supported the preparation and facilitation of parliamentary debates on constitutional reforms, ensuring technical precision and political feasibility.

Fahad’s expertise spans constitutional law, contract law, property law, public policy, and governance reform. Known for his analytical depth and practical solutions, he is widely recognized for bridging legal precision with political pragmatism, making him a trusted partner in navigating high-stakes political and institutional challenges.

He is equally committed to training and capacity-building, having designed and delivered workshops for judges, prosecutors, parliamentarians, and legal professionals, strengthening institutional capacity across Somalia and Somaliland.
