Tajamal Shah is a seasoned legal expert with a strong focus on digital technology, fintech, and compliance, particularly in Saudi Arabia (KSA). He regularly advises international clients on KSA laws, including the Payment and Payments Services Law, Data Protection and Cybersecurity Laws, Civil Transaction Law, GPTL, and Companies Act. His expertise covers electronic payments, digital identity frameworks, and national data exchange layers, where he has played a key role in developing e-governance structures, drafting trust certificates and accreditation standards for digital identity providers, and guiding EMI clients through regulatory applications to SAMA. He has also developed compliance programs for multinationals, drafting policies on data governance, verification and authentication services, SaaS, and PaaS platforms.
Beyond digital technology, Tajamal has extensive experience in structured finance, corporate finance, and project financing. He has advised clients on syndicated loan agreements, asset-based financing, Islamic securitization, and leveraged leases, as well as major infrastructure projects, including bids for the Saudi Nuclear Power Plant and operating leases for construction equipment. His corporate commercial expertise includes shareholder and joint venture agreements, manufacturing and construction contracts, and regulatory compliance.
His structured finance experience includes advising on leveraged leases, sale and leaseback structures, and tax-driven Japanese, German, and U.S. Pickle-Dole leveraged leases. He has in-depth knowledge of security tools, such as mortgages, assignments, floating and fixed charges, liens, guarantees, and trade finance products.
With a career spanning multiple jurisdictions—including the UK, KSA, and South Asia—Tajamal has worked with leading international firms, including DLA Piper, THS & Co., and Tasheel Law Firm in KSA. His cross-border expertise and commercial acumen make him a trusted advisor for clients navigating complex legal and regulatory landscapes.
It is pertinent to mention that Tajamal has held various in-house roles such as Area General Counsel for BAT and Senior Advisor to the UK Export Agency, as advisor to the UK Department of Trade and Industry on financial services.
