I AM MARRYING MY THAI GIRLFRIEND SHORTLY. HER BROTHER OWNS THE LAND ON WHICH I WISH TO BUILD HOUSE. WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS UNDER THIS POLICY

Thank you for your question. A foreigner is permitted to own a building, but not land. Therefore, you need to make sure that you secure ownership of the house to be built in your name. Also, you need to make sure that you have unrestricted access to the house and use of the land. We can assist you with both of these matters and ensure that your investment in the house is protected. Dear sir, thank you for the question. You can either set up a company to own the land, where you are a director and shareholder of said company, or you can have a long-term lease for the property from your future brother-in-law to you. Yes, you can own the house, but without having something else set up so that you have some sort of legal arrangement to access and use the land, you would not be 100% protected. Hopefully everything works out, but having a legal structure in place discourages others from trying to do anything that is not in your best interest. Please send an email to info@thailandfamilylaw.com or visit our website www.thailandfamilylaw.com for more details. Regards, Apiwat
