Lawsuits & Disputes
Whether it’s a sensitive transaction or a complex courtroom battle, we’re the banner warriors you want in your corner. You can count on the undivided attention of our dispute resolution team that prizes relationships over profits, and is dedicated to your cause, fighting hard and efficiently. Our gladiators have a single mind with a view to achieving success whether through settlement or a fight.
With experience of acting for regulators and for regulated companies we are well placed to advise clients who may consider challenging decisions that impact on their business. Our regulatory expertise spans the sectors and, across our dispute resolution network, we have the critical mass necessary to always be on hand to take swift action: important in an area of law where deadlines for action are tight.
Our lawyers settle disputes in the most appropriate manner, whether by litigation, mediation, adjudication or expert determination. Recognizing the pressures facing in-house teams to effectively manage their legal spend, we have developed a multi-faceted approach to matter efficiency.
Through our international partner we have developed experience in international disputes in a variety of fields, including mergers and acquisitions, oil & gas, concessions, agriculture projects, distribution and construction under diverse applicable laws and arbitration rules, including International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and SCC rules.
Real Estate
We work for some of the largest organizations in the real estate and financial services sector including property developers, pension funds, banks, private equity, sovereign wealth funds, real estate investment trusts and structured financiers. Our conveyancing warriors are leading advisors in the real estate and bank security sector in East Africa. Our multidisciplinary offering combines the know-how of our property, corporate, finance and tax lawyers, whose primary goal is to support our clients in achieving their commercial objectives.
Our work includes advising on investment transactions, development projects, co-investment structures, such as joint ventures, and other real estate work streams. We advise on all aspects of corporate real estate. We also advise buyers and sellers of both individual non-performing loans (NPLs) and NPL portfolios, including options analysis, standstill arrangements, debtor/creditor negotiations, restructurings, insolvency and realizations.
We are playing a critical role in the oil and gas sector as we advise international oil companies on land access rights. We also assist the IOCs in negotiating with County Governments on land use and land access rights.
Media, Technology and Telecoms
Our TMT’s overriding objective is to empower organizations to differentiate themselves and drive measurable results through technology. We have a multi-disciplinary Technology group which advises on the full spectrum of technology matters. Our lawyers are familiar with the particular challenges facing those involved in the technology sector and understand the dynamic, global nature of this fast paced environment.
We are fluent in information technology procurement, from complex global technology outsourcings to software licensing, development and maintenance arrangements, private equity transactions which require specialist technology input or have significant risk or value drivers associated with technology, intellectual property related technology issues including patent disputes.
