What alternatives are there to a company?

In Thailand

Last Updated: Apr 16, 2024

Hello, I would like to set up an organisation that works on artistic projects for social change in the region of Chiang Dao and Chiang Mai. We already have a business company with 2 foreign work permits and a Thai shareholder. We are 1 Thai, 1 UK, 1 Russian. Is there a possibility in Thailand to set up something similar to a non-profit / NGO or similar?

In Thailand, there are several options available for establishing a non-profit organization (NPO) or a non-governmental organization (NGO) with objectives similar to what you have described. These options include:

Foundation: Foundations are one of the most common forms of non-profit organizations in Thailand. They are established to promote charitable, educational, or other socially beneficial activities. Foundations must have a specific purpose stated in their articles of association, such as supporting artistic projects for social change.

Association: Associations are another type of non-profit organization that can be formed to pursue common interests or activities. They are typically membership-based and governed by a board of directors or committee. Associations can be formed for a wide range of purposes, including social welfare, education, or cultural activities.

Social Welfare Organization: Social welfare organizations are established to provide assistance and support to disadvantaged or vulnerable groups in society. They focus on addressing social issues and improving the well-being of individuals and communities. Social welfare organizations often work on projects related to education, healthcare, or poverty alleviation.

Each of these options has its own set of requirements and regulations, and the choice of structure will depend on factors such as the specific objectives of your organization, the activities you plan to undertake, and your preferences regarding governance and membership

You could consider forming a foundation in which you would be required to have a foundation fund or assets. Otherwise, an association would be the ideal.
