Client Portal
The client portal gives your clients secure, self-service access to their matter information. Clients can view shared documents, track milestones, and communicate with your team — without needing a full Lawzana Flow account.
How It Works#
- You enable portal access for a matter
- The client receives a magic link via email — no password or account needed
- They click the link to access their portal dashboard
- The portal shows only what you've explicitly shared
Access Levels#
When setting up portal access, choose the appropriate level:
| Level | Can Do |
|---|---|
| View | See shared documents and download them |
| Upload | Everything in View + upload documents |
| Full | Everything in Upload + messaging, timeline, milestones, and AI assistant |
Setting Up Portal Access#
- Open the matter you want to share
- Go to the matter settings or portal section
- Click Enable Portal Access
- Enter the client's email address
- Choose an access level (View, Upload, or Full)
- Optionally set an expiration date for the access link
- Click Send Invitation
The client receives an email with a secure magic link.
What Clients See#
Documents Tab#
- List of all documents you've shared from the matter
- Download button for each document
- File size and date shared
- Clients cannot see documents you haven't explicitly shared
Timeline Tab (Full access only)#
- Activity stream showing matter progress
- Status changes, key events, and updates
- Who performed each action and when
Milestones Tab (Full access only)#

- Overdue milestones highlighted
- Completed milestones for reference
- Priority badges: Low, Medium, High, Critical
Messaging Tab (Full access only)#

AI Assistant (Full access only)#

- Has context from the matter's shared documents
Sharing Documents#
To share a specific document with a client:
- Open the matter and go to the Documents tab
- Find the document you want to share
- Toggle Share with Client to on
- The document immediately appears in the client's portal
To stop sharing:
- Toggle Share with Client to off
- The document is removed from the client's view
Client Document Uploads#
Clients with Upload or Full access can upload documents:
- Maximum file size: 10 MB per file
- Supported formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, images, Excel
- Documents uploaded by clients are flagged for your review
- You can then share them back, analyze them with AI, or file them in the matter
Multi-Matter Access#
A client can have portal access to multiple matters. Each matter has its own portal view, and the client can switch between them.
Revoking Access#
To revoke a client's portal access:
- Open the matter
- Go to portal settings
- Remove the client's access or let the expiration date pass
Note
Revoking access is immediate. The client's magic link will no longer work.
Security#
- Portal access uses token-based authentication — no passwords stored
- Each access link is unique and tied to a specific client and matter
- Access links can have expiration dates
- All portal activity is logged for audit purposes
- Documents are served over encrypted connections
