Drafting

Lawzana Flow's drafting module lets you create, edit, and manage legal documents with AI assistance. Documents are authored in a rich text editor with AI-powered features built in.

Creating a Draft#

Click New Draft in the Drafting section. You have five ways to start:

1. Blank Document#

Start with an empty editor. Best when you want to write from scratch.

2. From Template#

Browse your organization's saved templates and start with pre-filled content. Templates can be created from any existing draft.

3. From Existing Draft#

Clone an existing draft to create a new version or variant. The original remains unchanged.

4. AI Generate#

Let AI create a complete first draft:

  1. Click AI Generate
  2. Describe what you need (e.g., "Non-disclosure agreement for a software development engagement with a 2-year term")
  3. The AI generates a complete document
  4. Review and edit as needed in the editor

AI credits used: 3 credits

5. Import a File#

Upload an existing document to convert it into an editable draft:

  • DOCX files: Up to 10 MB
  • PDF files: Up to 20 MB (text-based PDFs work best; scanned documents may not convert properly)

The document is converted to editable format for further editing.

The Editor#

The drafting editor provides a rich editing experience with familiar formatting tools.

Page Management#

  • Page breaks are visible while editing
  • Page preview shows document layout
  • Page indicators show your position in the document

AI Editing Features#

Ghost Text (Auto-Complete)#

As you type, the AI suggests completions in gray text:

  • Press Tab to accept the suggestion
  • Press Escape to dismiss it
  • Keep typing to ignore and replace it

Ghost text learns from the context of your document to provide relevant suggestions.

Inline AI Edit#

Select any text to get AI editing options:

  1. Highlight the text you want to change
  2. A popup menu appears with options:
    • Improve tone/clarity — Make the writing clearer and more professional
    • Make more concise — Shorten while preserving meaning
    • Make more formal — Elevate the register
    • Expand — Add more detail and depth
    • Simplify — Use plainer language
    • Custom instruction — Tell the AI exactly what to do

Full Document AI Edit#

Ask the AI to revise the entire document:

  1. Click Ask AI to edit
  2. Describe the changes you want (e.g., "Make the liability section more favorable to the service provider")
  3. The AI returns the edited document with tracked changes:
    • Red — Deleted text
    • Green — Added text
    • Blue — Modified text
  4. Review each change and accept or reject individually

Clause Library#

Access a library of reusable clauses while drafting:

  1. Open the Clause Library sidebar panel
  2. Browse clauses by category:
    • Billing & Payment
    • Confidentiality
    • Limitation of Liability
    • Termination
    • Dispute Resolution
    • And more
  3. Search the library by keyword
  4. Click a clause to insert it at your cursor position
Tip
Save your own frequently used clauses to the library for quick access across all drafts.

Engagement Letter Wizard#

A guided 4-step wizard for creating engagement letters:

Step 1: Template Selection#

Choose a base template or generate from scratch.

Step 2: Billing Terms#

Configure how the client will be billed:

Partner Rate Hourly rate for partners
Associate Rate Hourly rate for associates

Flat Fee Amount Total for flat-fee engagements

Step 3: Scope & Service Details#

Step 4: Generate#

  • Select Governing Law jurisdiction
  • Click Generate to create the engagement letter
  • The AI produces a complete, professionally formatted letter
  • Open in the editor for final review and adjustments

Draft Status#

Each draft tracks its lifecycle:

Status Meaning
Draft Work in progress
Review Sent for internal review
Approved Approved by a reviewer
Finalized Ready for execution

Version History#

Every change to a draft is versioned. You can:

  • View previous versions
  • Compare versions to see what changed
  • Restore a previous version if needed

Word Count#

The current word count is displayed in the editor, updated as you type.
